Yankees Sweep Jays in Rain Shortened 6-0 win

Teixeira goes deep on Mark Teixeira Figurine Day
Even though Kuroda did not go the distance today, he will be credited with a complete game shutout after blanking the Blue Jay bats for seven dominant innings. Kuroda had his best stuff of the season with his fastball reading 95 MPH on the radar gun at times. The Yankee bullpen is saved for the day as they head into Oakland and Seattle for six games. It's big that the bullpen gets a day off on a day where they would have surely been used to get the final six outs of the game. It gives Girardi flexibility entering tomorrow's game against the surging Athletics if Garcia can't give him distance.

The Yankee offense was firing on all cylinders today as they scored six runs in six innings, all against Jays starter Ricky Romero. Romero did not have his good stuff at all today, giving up four runs in the first inning alone before settling down somewhat later in the game. Mark Teixeira had a big game by getting two hits with one of those hits a two-run home run. Jeter, Andruw Jones, DeWayne Wise and Nick Swisher also chipped in by getting runs batted in. Robinson Cano extended his career high hitting streak to twenty-one games after his first inning double against Romero today.

The Yankees have now scored three or more runs in 42 straight games, a single season record for the Yankees. Also, they now have a ten game lead in the AL East over the second place Tampa Bay Rays.
