One Streak ends while Another continues

The Yankees have snapped a mini-three game winning streak and a nine game win streak over the A's in Oakland tonight. Coming into today, the Yankees also had another streak going. They scored three runs or more in forty-two straight games. Although it came in a losing effort tonight, the streak continued when Swisher hit a ninth inning home run that gave the Yankees their third run of the game. The starter for the A's, Griffin, was outstanding. He hurled six frames of two-run ball against a potent Yankees lineup that has been thriving for over a month now.

Freddy Garcia got a bit tattooed in tonight's game but the crushing blow was a two-run home run hit by Yoenis Cespedes that would turn out to be the difference in the game. Garcia pitched 5.1 innings and turned the ball over to David Phelps, who tossed over two innings of perfect baseball. Phelps has certainly made an impression on the Yankee ownership. He gave them a strong outing in Tampa Bay earlier in the month and followed it up with another strong outing in relief. If his hot streak continues, the Yankees have to strongly think about moving him into the rotation in Freddy Garcia's spot.

Tomorrow night, the Yankees will hand the ball to ten game winner, Ivan Nova. His last start did not go well so the pitcher is looking to rebound from a shaky performance against the Angels. The Athletics will counter with Tommy Milone, who pitched well against the Yankees in May but suffered a loss in a Yankees sweep of Oakland.
