Red Sox outlast Yankees

David Phelps gave the Yankees more than they could have asked for by going 6.2 innings and allowing only three runs, which qualifies as a quality start. Unfortunately for Phelps, Jon Lester was better as he went seven strong innings and allowed just one run on a solo homer by Granderson, his thirty-second long ball of the year. Lester who has been having a terrible year before his last two starts, has found something and used it to his advantage today in the Bronx, making the Yankees look like little leaguers.

The offense did not do anything with men on base today, with Granderson and Swisher combining for four of the five hits Lester gave up today. The Boston bullpen was impressive as well, giving up base runners but not Llowing a run over two innings. This game is one the Yankees should not fret over. They have a good lead in the division and one loss against a team buried in the division will not hurt.

Tomorrow night, ESPN will broadcast the Sunday night game of the week. Hiroki Kuroda will start for the Yankees, coming off his best outing of the year against the Rangers. Josh Beckett will look to put his 2012 struggles behind him as he faces the Yankees look to take the series.
