Phil Hughes gave the Yankees just what they needed tonight after last night's devastating loss. He fired seven innings of one-run ball to win the Yankees a game they desperately needed to avoid the possibility of getting swept by a sub-par team tomorrow afternoon. Luckily for the Yankees, two runs is all they would need against Ricky Romero who was really on top of his game tonight. Even better for the Yankees, Phil Hughes was better. David Robertson and Rafael Soriano combined for two 1-2-3 innings and Soriano showed more emotion than usual after sealing the deal on a Yankee victory.
For the Bronx Bombers, no home runs were needed to get this victory, marking a rare homer-less win for the Yankees. A clutch two-out RBI single by Nick Swisher with two outs in the third inning. The other run came in the fourth inning on a Granderson sac fly to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. There wasn't much offense to write about, so that will conclude my post on this must win victory for the New York Yankees.
In the rubber game of the three game set against the Blue Jays, CC Sabathia will make his second start since coming off the DL. He will face J.A Happ who will pitch for Toronto.
