Another Game that Got Away

CC Sabathia actually pitched well tonight, going 7.1 solid frames allowing just three earned runs. Sabathia looked like the ace the Yankees had for the first four years of Sabathia's tenure with the team. The Yankees really needed Sabathia to step up tonight in order to turn around a three game skid. Instead, Sabathia pitched well but Mariano Rivera couldn't hold on to the one run lead in the bottom of the ninth after Dunn singled to score the tying run. Neither team scored again until the twelfth inning when Robinson Cano put the Yankees in front by hitting a go-ahead solo home run that wouldn't hold up. The White Sox would score two runs to win the game off Adam Warren. The Yankees have now gotten swept by the White Sox in Chicago for two straight years. This is uncharted territory for the Yankees who find themselves digging a hole that is becoming deeper and deeper to climb out of.

The Yankees get a much needed off day tomorrow and start a fresh series at the stadium against the Tigers which will be no easy task. However, the Yankees are sending Ivan Nova to the mound. Nova has been their second best starter of the second half behind Kuroda. The Yankees  will have a lot of trouble scoring runs the rest of the way so it will be in their best interest to have solid starting pitching.
